Alpha.

Since last week, I have continued on with the development of my game, by altering the sky to give it a more nostalgic feel and giving it an endpoint (congrats, you win, here are other ways you can help save the planet!)

You win!
By adding this skybox, the lighting completely changed the feel of the game and the map. The grass and trees look more alive, and in the distance, there are buildings and a sea. As part of the endpoint, I have added this image to raise awareness on global warming;

How to help the earth.
If everyone started doing these simple tasks, the world would be a better place. I do however think my map is slightly too big and I need less trees and include a barn or a house someplace to include a hidden item of plastic.. or two. As of now, the size of the map is 600x600 (a simple square), but I should be cutting it by half, surrounding the area with mountains and playing around with more than one tree-type. I'm quite happy with how my game looks so far and I cannot wait to finish it!

  1. Well a good day to you Vlad!!!

Well well well I must say that your game progress up to the alpha seems to be going really well and I am very impressed with the progress that you have made in your game. If there is one question that I have to ask about you game is when you reached the end of the game and receive that smart method of giving ways to save the planet, will it go straight back to a menu or will stay on the skybox until you exit out of the game entirely. I would give some assets to help but I feel that your game is coming along really well and I think that no matter what happens it will be great no matter what because I believed that it will all work out for you.

    Cheerio!!!

  2. Hey Vladimir,

Great job on the progress! I love the idea for the game. Sending a message through the medium of a video game is a great concept, and works very well! Changing the lighting to simulate the environment getting better as you remove the plastic is such an effective message.

Are there any other obstacles in your game to make it more challenging? Something like a polluted river that you cannot cross until you remove the contaminated plastic from upstream. That’s just a rough idea, but something like that to add an extra element.

Well done again, I hope it keeps going well for you.

  3. Hiya there Vlad, its a pleasure getting to read all about your game again and learning more about how you are getting along in making it. I really admire the detail you added that a screen or text that reads 'You Win'. It helps make it clear to the player when they have succeeded or not and gives them a great feeling of accomplishment, I also like the fact your win screen provides further info to the player on how they can help the environment out. i noticed you mentioning your game world being too large, I find that rather interesting, cause I was wondering that myself with my own game, I wasn't sure if it needs to be smaller or bigger than it currently was at that point. Is there any risk towards losing the game? As in is there a time limit to finding everything or is it just as long as it takes? Either way this game is looking great.

I like the idea behind your game that you are trying to send players a message. my game is also too big, I am currently trying to make it smaller but I dont quite know how too!

  5. Hi Vlad

This was a very well-done blog post. Your game is looking great so far. I really like the idea for the game. Making a game that brings awareness to global warming is great idea and sounds like it could be made into a fun game. So the idea is good.

Have you considered on adding enemies within the game that are elements that affect the environment? Like carbon dioxide and Trump I think this would add a fun element to the game. I am a bit confused on the game will look like maybe you could add some pictures or drawings in so we can see what the game looks like.

I would suggest looking at some YouTube videos that will help you make your map smaller but not to ruin the map at the same time. Making a game like this will be a challenge to make but a fun idea.

  6. Hey Vlad,
I really enjoyed reading your blog your game seems to be coming a long really well I really like that you added an image to help save the environment fair play you obviously know what you are doing in your game and are creating it maybe you could add a player maybe you already have a player but maybe the player could pick up stuff in the game such as rubbish to add more of an environmental friendly aspect to your game but overall your game looks great I really like the you won aspect to your game so the player knows when it has won your game also it is obvious your game is coming a long really well anyway I will leave it there hope to read more about your game soon.

  7. Hi Vlad,

This is my first time reading over your project feed, and I really like everything you've done! Your idea is so good and well thought out and also an original, effective take on an already existing concept of a game. It's great that the game will not only entertain players but also educate them on issues and resolutions to these current issues. It will make them realize how easy it is to make a huge difference on this planet, Kudos to you for coming up with it. You clearly know the aesthetic that you want to achieve very well and you're very sure of the end goal which is great.

Do you think there should be obstacles in the game? I'm not sure exactly what kind but maybe something to hinder the player's journey to success. This would encourage them to play more and also it might make them empathize with the purpose more.
